Assalamualaikum.
first of all, as the first post in this magazine backstage, all I want to talk about is our history of the making of our magazine.
The idea was sparked in the rush of thinking about the fundraising for a charity program we joined since 14 jan 2011. It was R2S(Road to Sarawak). the target were about RM 30k.
It was quite high for fresh graduated secondary school students. The team consisted of 20 participants. The time span for us to complete our goal of RM 30k was only within a month. A little too hard for fresh graduated secondary school students? Yup, even determination, hard work, and commitment wasn’t enough for us to achieve the target but our overall collection was satisfying enough.
Even if we didn’t quite achieve our target in terms of money collection, we were proud of the work we’ve put in. We knew we tried our best to help those in need. We knew we were doing it for the right cause. So we were glad we could help with what we did.
One of the ideas we came up with for our fundraising was creating a magazine. In the beginning, we believed we could finish working on the magazine in about three weeks or so.
Without looking back, we started collecting articles, editing them, design the front cover of the magazine, finding a publisher, and sending all our work to our publisher. In just a few weeks, our magazine was completed. We couldn’t wait to publish it.
However, we weren’t expecting our magazine to be a serious hit until our publisher asked us several questions. Questions that made us think deep into the world of business, magazines, and publishing.
We were clueless. If we were to publish the magazine with what we already had, would people buy it? How many, exactly? How much is the price of this magazine? Is it worth it? Why should people buy our magazine? Who are the people that will buy our magazine? Do we want this to be a one shot magazine? Or do we want it to be a series magazine? They were these type of questions that made us think twice.
We decided to make it a series magazine. Great. So we made up our decision, now let’s print! Woah. Hold on. As I said earlier, the questions asked by our publisher made us think twice. It made us realize we could make this a big hit magazine.
But………… That would require us to fix and transform our magazine to something that people would actually want to read. Wow. Sounds hard? If there was any one word that could describe how it is for us to produce a public magazine in the making, it would be just that. Hard.
We weren’t sure where to start. So we looked for support and fortunately, we received a lot of it. A lot of credit goes to training and consultant company, Total Success and our dearest publisher, Dreka for understanding the purpose of this magazine and supporting the cause of it all the way.
Our magazine is still far from done. Creating a magazine requires a really long process. It requires a lot of research, hard work, and commitment. So far, we refuse to step back. We will continue.
We believe that we have a good purpose in creating this magazine. We believe this magazine can spark a change. The only way to think about it, is to let down a huge project like this or to make use of it. Not many people at such a young age receive the opportunity to make a change. We have received this opportunity. It seems more than just an opportunity. It seems more of a responsibility. Our journey starts now.
We hope you can join our journey to making this magazine a reality one day. Please, follow us on this blog for frequent updates. Thanks and may God bless your support and efforts for this cause~!
